Dartmouth Dog Sitting

Dog Day Care,
Boarding, & Walking

by Rebecca Hussman Morine

Need a hand with your pup? I’m here to help!

My name is Rebecca, and I have 15+ years of experience caring for dogs of all ages, shapes, and sizes. There is a reason people call me a dog whispererβ€”I have an uncanny ability to understand dogs’ needs and attend to them in the way that suits them best. While no two dogs are alike, I do believe that all dogs have fundamentally good hearts, and I am here to provide each dog I encounter with the same level of devoted attention and care that I give to my own dog.

Because I am committed to providing round-the-clock care to my dog and yours, please note that I only accept one dog at a time.

About us and our home

My husband and I moved from Halifax to Dartmouth in 2018 with our then puppy, Kaya. Kaya is a gentle red Golden Retriever who gets along well with every dog. She has a ton of toys and balls and is used to sharing everything when we have visitors. Our home has a large fenced-in yard perfect for zoomies, munching on sticks, and hanging in the sun or shade. I work from home, so I am able to be present 24/7 with your dog. Dogs are welcome on the furniture and beds here, though if they are not at your home, I will be sure to reinforce that rule.

The right fit

Before your first booking, a meet and greet at our home is required so I can take the time to learn about your dog, and so our dogs can meet. That way, we can be sure they will get along. Your dog will also be free to sniff and roam, so they can become familiar with the place. While the dogs explore, we will discuss things like if your dog has any allergies, how often they get walked and fed, and if there are any specific behaviours or quirks to look out for. I will also make sure to find out the specific commands you use in order to reinforce your training.

About your stay

Once we agree it is a fit at the meet and greet, I will confirm the dates, pricing, and pickup and drop-off times. In terms of what to bring, the standard items are:

  • Collar and leash
  • Harness (if they have one)
  • Bed or blanket
  • Food (with a scoop or individually portioned)
  • Food and water bowls
  • Calming chews (optional)
  • Treats (optional, always nice to have!)

Throughout the stay, I will provide many photos to keep you updated on how they’re doing, so you can see how they are settling in and how much fun they’re having!

Plenty of photo updates!

Between having a new pal, big backyard, and constant attention from me, all our guests are so happy here. It’s truly like a vacation for your dog! So sharing photos of them having a ball is such a pleasure. Check out our Instagram to see little profiles of each of our guests!

“Our experience with Dartmouth Dog Sitting was incredibly positive. It was so reassuring knowing that our dog was so well cared for, his experience wasn’t sleeping in a cold dark kennel every night while we were away. +Daily updates and photos. +very easy to deal with, +and generally such good people.
easily 12/10.”

“We left Neeko with Rebecca for his first vacation sleepover. I was anxious about leaving him since we adopted him from a shelter less than a year ago, but after meeting with Rebecca, Kaya and her husband I was totally relaxed. From the very first meet and greet I knew they were going to be a perfect fit to care for Neeko while we were away on vacation. I received messages, videos and pictures that allowed me to see how things were going and because everything went so great I was relaxed and could enjoy my time away. I knew Neeko was having a blast as well and settled into their house with ease. I think he misses Kaya, so we have to arrange something soon so they can play. Rebecca I want to thank you for making this a comfortable experience, you truly went above and beyond and treated Neeko like family, I would recommend your services to anyone looking for an exceptional dog sitter. I can’t wait for our next vacation so Neeko gets to spend time with his favourite ‘sister’ Kaya.”

“Rebecca is an extremely trusted sitter for my dog when I’m away! She’s taken care of my Golden Retriever twice now, and I couldn’t be more pleased with her perfect communication, unwavering trustworthiness and top-class professionalism. Her large, fenced-in backyard is a great bonus for the dogs to have some fun in. As I usually work from home full-time, it’s particularly comforting to know that Rebecca, too, stays at home throughout the day, offering a familiar environment for my dog. Another thing I appreciate is Rebecca’s routine of sending multiple updates and photos throughout the day. Receiving such photos and videos lessens the heartache of being away from my furry friend. It’s incredibly reassuring to see that he is being treated as part of their family just as much as their own dog. If you’re contemplating boarding your pup with Rebecca, don’t hesitate! I wholeheartedly recommend her – both you and your pup will be nothing short of delighted. 10 out of 10!”

FAQ

Have some questions? There’s a good chance the answers are in our frequently asked questions below!

Do you accept more than one dog at a time?

Unfortunately no. Currently, our policy is to look after only one dog at a time for day care, boarding, and walking services. This ensures all guest dogs get the same devoted love and attention that my dog Kaya gets.

Do you take puppies?

Yes! I have ample experience caring for puppies as young as 12 weeks old. Kaya assumes the role of maternal leader and is great at gently showing them the ropes.

Is there an extra fee for puppies?

Yes, the extra fee is $15 per day and $20 per night. This is to accommodate for the extra care and attention required, such as for puppies who are still house training, need additional walks, etc.

Please note, dogs under 1 year’s old are considered a puppy.

How do early drop-off and late pick-up fees work?

There is an additional $15 fee for drop-offs before 8am, and similarly there is a $15 fee for pick-ups after 8pm.

What is the additional fee for holidays?

On any major holiday such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Canada Day, etc. there is an additional $15 fee per day and $20 per night. Pricing will always be confirmed with you prior to finalizing the booking.

When are you available?

Please refer to my calendar on Rover to see my up-to-date availablity. And if you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
